2015
Thursday 22nd October
At first I did a recap of the last lesson and then moved onto playing some chords in different positions, and using 12 bar blues. My targets are to perfect 12 bar blues tunes/songs.
Thursday 29th October
Carried on learning and practising 12 bar blues and playing small songs using them. My music teacher then gave me some more complicated tunes to play, at first i found these hard but got the hag of it in the end.
Thursday 5th November
Stared to do finer exercise on keys and chords to make sure my fingers don't slip and lose their place. we then had a go at quickly changing chords/ notes without looking, we did this to make the movement. we then implemented this into small tunes.
Thursday 12th November
This was very similar to the last lesson, however we played some more tunes and melodies together.
Thursday 19th November
I came in and did some finger warm ups trying to play notes on their own and not playing any other, for example playing with my ring finger without pulling down my little finger. We then started playing tied chords and 12 bar blues in C.
Thursday 26th November
We started with some finger warm ups to slowly make the movement natural and make it easier to play. we then moved on to playing some simple tunes such as: old aunt nancy and others.
Thursday 3rd December
Straight away as soon as I came in we carried on with some simple tunes which were not too tricky however as we progressed through them they got more complicated.
Thursday 10th December
As this was our last lesson before the christmas holidays, I learnt how to switch between the different chords but do it with as little movement as possible, this was called playing G7 notes, he also said to practice this at home over the holidays.
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
2016
2016
Thursday 14th January
This was our first lesson back after christmas and we revised the G7 chord exercise and tried to play it in a 12 bar tune. Some of these tunes included switching from F chords to E chords and switching to the nearest/easiest chord arrangement for that chord. At first this took me a while to get used to and a while to find the nearest chord arrangement but eventually it became easier and natural.
Thursday 21st January
For the first half of the lesson we finished off the 12 bar blue exercises and started to practice some more complicated tunes with different symbols within the writing, some of the tunes were Russian Dance and Sunshine & Showers which use sharps, flats, staccatos and others.
Thursday 28th January
We started with finger warm ups and then we moved on to practicing the Russian Dance song and played together with the high octave and the low octave creating a nice harmony.
Thursday 4th February
We practiced the song Sunshine and Showers which included flat & high notes and soft & hard notes and we went through this song a few times to get used to it and then incorporated it into some small made up tunes and recapped some 12 bar blues.
Thursday 11th February
First we went back into the exercise book and quickly recapped the G7 exercise and exercise 19 where we played the chords in different positions to their root positions, this is to be able to play the chord quicker and switch between chords quicker rather than moving all of your fingers.
HALF TERM
Thursday 25th February
This was our first lesson back after the February half term so we started with finger exercises where I had to balance a coin on the top of my hand to make sure I would keep my hand level and curve my fingers. We then moved on to exercises out of my piano book and practiced some skills out of there to help me play faster.
Thursday 3rd March
We completed exercise 18 from my music booklet which was about trying to play notes harder and softer to create different sounds and play more complex tunes, and then we looked at the shapes and notes of the chords to see if we can form them easier.
Thursday 10th March
We completed exercise 18 from my music booklet which was about trying to play notes harder and softer to create different sounds and play more complex tunes, and then we looked at the shapes and notes of the chords to see if we can form them easier.
